Blog Review: FotoFilmic

FotoFilmic
Andi Schmied | London, UK

FotoFilmic’13’ features 30 prints from film photographers through the online publication.  They first published a 6-month online curated publication of 90 film photographers. They motive behind this progressive two-step web & walls curatorial approach to contemporary film photography. The site features 90 film photographers from all around the world on walls, in print, and online.  The site is based on understanding of film photography, both, fine art medium and photography.
It is easy visually to read and find out articles about the photography on wall or in print because the site is organized simply as white and black.

The article is about the urban life around the author. The author was born and raised in Budapest. He studied at some university in Barcelona, Tel Aviv and London.
I’m interested to the psychological landscape from the gorgeous women and architecture of the background. Also, I catch his sincere practice’s fancy from his article. As filmmaking at my class of RTV, I find it is easy to sympathize with him.

Blog Review: Light Leaked

Blog Review: Light Leaked
Ariya Martin Tuesday, November 5

Light Leaked is a photography journal. They create dialogue about photographic creation through features and interviews of online process. It focuses to create exposure and a community to emerging and authorized photographers. They upload new contents every Monday. Then, there are four photographers interviewed and featured by Ashley Kauschinger per a month. It is easily organized to find out for readers, and it is easy to read visually appealing with the dark color background and the white words.

This blog is about Ariya Martin’s works of her photography expressing the delicate balance inherent in living. She was born in Rochester, New York. She has worked at significant photographic institutions. She enjoys the dialogue about their projects with her friend as sharing of ideas and the creative energy more.  She cofounded ‘One Bird’, a nonprofit that blends social work and art. I was actually interested at the photos because Ariya Martin’s works describe her mind well of cooperation with people. Next, another reason is she uses personal and her daily life for the public to get close. Moreover, she notices her own story of her photography plainly.

Blog Review: Aperture Magazine Blog

Aperture Magazine Blog

Site Specific: Introduction  by Christopher Phillips,
                       September 11, 2013
  • Aperture is a not-for-profit foundation based in New York which was created in 1952 by photographers and writers as “common ground for the advancement of photography,” They produce, publish, and present a program of photography projects. Aperture posts daily photography of authors on the blog. In addition to posting, they publish four issues for magazine each year and about twelve and fifteen new photobooks. It is a growing digital publishing program. Aperture’s projects and programs are made possible by the support of their company. It is for the photo community. It is little bit complicated to find your topic because they feature a lot of theme on the homepage.
  • This blog is a piece of from a longer essay included in Site Specific: Photographs of Olivio Barbieri in Aperture magazine. This article is written by Christopher Phillips. He is one of the world’s most restless photographers. He mentions “the city as an avatar of itself.”  He pictured more than forty of the world’s cities from a helicopter hovering.
Then, he believed the aim of Site Specific was not to produce an objective document of the world’s cities but to somehow push photography’s language into new territory.
I was interested at urban photos of some countries taken by him. Also, I was surprised at his term of viewing urban cities into both, good and bad points.

Blog Rivew: Glasstire!

- Glasstire
- Brian Keith Jones: Meanwhile…Back in Dallas October 18th, 2013 – Danielle Georgiou

-Glasstire is an online magazine that covers visual art in Texas and Southern California.  It is a non-profit corporation, and they’ve been operating since January 2001. They are supported in part by grants from the Texas Commission for the Arts and lots of departments. There are lots of editors and bloggers. For instance, Michael Bise, one of them is an artist, also as featured columnist living in Houston, TX.  The blog is visually appealing well and focuses on various topics such as video and arts including photography. They post typically five times a week.

-Ro2 Art opened to an excited crow Brian Keith Jones’ first solo exhibition, ‘Meanwhile… Back’ on the same day as the State Fair. The gallery is in Dallas, TX.  Ro2 Art focuses on the exhibition and sale of work in all visual media at the gallery, as well as through public exhibition programs. The opening session is through September 27 - October 27, 2013. The topic of the work is about the local nostalgia of last year’s traumatic blaze, in which an electrical fire destroyed the iconic statue of Big Tex (or Big brian identified only by a curl of hair on his forehead). He made the painting into film at 24 frames per second, was made from 50 individual paintings. Next, he loves neon colored fluorescent paint.

-I was interested about that his work entertains, and evokes just enough folksiness not to have been made anything profound in the work.  In addition, I thought the painting was so lovely and approachable easily to me.

‘Lenscratch’ Blog Review

 ‘Lenscratch’ Blog Review
The title of the article is nature of Civilization by Toru Shiomi

LE N S C R A T C H is considered one of the 10 Photography-Related blogs. This blog is well organized simply to connect recent art photos on the right side. It is visually appealing and easy to read. They post photography as uploading daily updates and their main posts are about recent art photo news. It explores contemporary fine art photography. The photo is for Mysteries, Dreams, and Other Worlds Exhibition one month ago by Toru Shiomi entitled nature of Civilization. The artist was born in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan and now lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. After working as a scientist in National Research Lab, she started a career as a photographer. She focuses on finding suitable methods to express the concept of thesis. She makes lots of experiments to combine traditional artwork techniques with modern technology including photography itself. She has been won some awards from 2011 to 2013.
The work called ‘nature of Civilization’ is about the technology human beings found into the nature with great mystery. She is trying to show that human beings have expanded it about the essence of nature and her belief of our technological society . I’m interested in this photo because it seemed such as fantasy that people would see the progressive technology as a photo.

Questionnaire

1. What’s your major? What year will you graduate?

My major is Radio and Television arts. I am not sure, but I expect that I’ll graduate after 2015.

2. Why did you choose a photography class (or photography as a major), and what do you hope to learn from school in general and this class specifically?

The reason why I chose this photography class was that I like taking photos as remembering past things that I took photos. In this class, I hope to learn an enjoyable class, not hard. Once again, I love taking photos.

3. What are your goals after graduation? Please list your goals in reverse order, starting five years out, then three, two, one, and six months.

After graduation, my goal is that I get a job related Korean broadcasting station. I want to work anything associated with broadcasting areas. First of all, I’ll have an experience like an intern in broadcasting station in the middle of studying in university. I already visited Japan national broadcasting station called NHK. In addition, when I come out of the station, I met Korean hot sexy star, Dambi Son and four staffs. So, after graduating, I’ll start from outside and then come in core before 30 years old.

4. What artists, musicians, photographers, writers, movies, books have influenced you/your work?

One of my favorite musicians is Ne-yo. I like his R&B style. His voice and the song’s lyric are pretty calm. Also, the other reason is that he challenged his first album with playing as the basketball player. Also, I think he’s been making efforts to several genres like music and film, not stopping.

5. Are there any important websites that you are referencing for art/photo competitions and/or information?
I didn't find referring sites, and I just found someone's blog as using Wiki

6. What museums and/or galleries have you been to in the past year?

Yes! I visited Dallas museum of art last year.

7. Have you had any photo projects and/ or training in the past?

No, I haven’t had any photo projects. I’ve just liked to take a photo. If there are any photo projects in the class, I practice and practice although I’m not very well professional.

8. What is the value of art for the artist?

I think the value of art is that people recognize the artist’s work and catch their mind and understand their state of emotion. I think it is a precious and important thing to the artist because the artist wants to deliver from person to person about his work.

 9. What is the value of art for the audience?

More concerned and invaluable artist’s work, more approaches audience’s emotion I think.  The value of it for the audience is showing contemporary work of culture for each age.

10. Is photography a vocation or an avocation?

Photography is a vocation to me..

11. What is your passion?

My passion is now just to practice for the future, not regret.

12. What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?

In the class? I am not afraid in the class. I usually feel difficult about talking in English.

13. Do you have a passport? Are you a traveller?

I have a passport. I have a student visa.

14. Who is your favorite artist? And why?

I already told my favorite artist. One is ne-yo and the other is some Korean artists. I like ballad and R&B, and rap music. Ballad sometimes makes me fill my lonely. Also, I like R&B mixed between beat and blues.  Then, I enjoy some rap music which has good lyric and beat like ‘where is the love’

 15. Why did you sign up for this class? What do you hope to learn from it?

The reason why I signed up this class is that I like and enjoy taking a photo.

Lastly, I hope to learn to take a beautiful picture!!

Five Great Portrait Photographers

Five Great Portrait Photographers

Vivian Dorothea Maier

Vivian Dorothea Maier was an American amateur street photographer, who was born in New York City, but grew up in France. (February 1, 1926 – April 21, 2009) She took more than 100,000 photographs, primarily of people and cityscapes in Chicago, although she traveled and photographed worldwide. Her photographs remained unknown and mostly undeveloped until they were discovered.
What I find to be the most interesting aspect in her series of Self-Portraits, is her ability to show mostly a unfriendly face, and seems her arm position like a triangle. At times, she usually looks upper side and seems angry. Her images give me a sense of her self-perception and also how she appears by herself, and I think she want to find herself. You can view more of her work here. You can view more of her work here.

Helmut Newton

Helmut Newton born in Berlin was a German-Australian photographer. He was a "prolific, widely imitated fashion photographer. (31 October 1920 – 23 January 2004)

He has been using many sexual photos. It was really bad sensational photos. He’s been taking many photos with women models.  But, I was interested about taking gloomy circumstances but exciting from his photos with models. You can view more of her work here.

Ilse Bing

Ilse Bing was a German avant and commercial photographer during the inter-war era. Her Self-Portrait remains an icon of modernist photography, and a time when many women were embracing modernity and independence, along with the new opportunities. (23 March 1899 – 10 March 1998)

What I find to be the most interesting is her face in the photo. The face seems like my Italian friend. In addition, she expressed very well her aspect with gorgeous backgrounds. You can view more of her work here.

Ansel Easton Adams

Ansel Easton Adams  was an American photographer and environmentalist. His black-and-white landscape photographs of the American West, especially Yosemite National Park, have been widely reproduced on calendars, posters, and in books.

In this picture, I felt that I was very well comfortable and calm from him. His smiling face of photos appeals person’s mind. Also, some photos with other person are proofs. His smiling shows us that he isn’t old and seems like a young boy except for his appearance.  You can view more of her work here.

Stanley Kubrick
Stanley Kubrick was born in New York. He was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, and editor who did most of his work. He was considered intelligent despite poor grades at school. (July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999)

First of all, I found his histories of the career. He worked filming, but also other area related to it. Most of all, his images give me that he loves taking photos with his people around him related to his film area.  You can view more of her work here.

Thank You!!!!!
